While technically Day 3 of our road trip this was Day 1 of the Alaska Highway. Dawson Creek BC maintains this sign to help mark the beginning of this gorgeous stretch of highway, full of bison, trees, bighorn sheep and so much more.

Eyes of hope and the kind of energy that can only occur at the beginning of a road trip.

There used to be 8 grain elevators in Dawson Creek BC but now there is only 1 - a wooden grain elevator that is now an art gallery. It was built in 1948 by the Alberta Wheat Pool. In 1982 it was moved to a new location and opened as an art gallery in October 1983.

As we travelled north, we noticed that the vegetation was cleared from a relatively wider area beside the highways. This provides clear sightlines, prevents snow drifts, controls invasive weeds, and ensures efficient drainage and access.

I don't like fireweed on principle as it is a weed and invasive; however, I'll begrudgingly admit that the purple flowers create a scenic sea of violet on the road sides

The sign warning of moose is pasted into this photo but we saw MANY of these types of signs along the way - also for bears, deer, elk and moose. Moose were not spotted during this road trip as it wasn't the right time of year to see them, but we still kept our eye out!
